County beat Bedfordshire 8-4

Bedford and County GC was the scene of the latest preseason friendly last Sunday. In a match of twelve singles Cambridgeshire played a good blend of experience and youth.

Danny Loveday led the way with a fine 1 up victory over White from Bedfordshire. In a tight match Loveday was leading 1 up going into the 17th and played an exquisite chip shot to save par and remain one up. They halved the 18th and Loveday won 1 up. In the second match Tom Burgh was five under par going through 12 holes and finally won 2&1. David Marris was 1 up going to the 18th tee and the Bedfordshire player pushed his tee shot out of bonds and Marris pared the hole to win 2up. Andy Grimwood played steady golf and won 5&3. Matt Pearce played the golf of the day with four birdies in seven holes and won 7&5. Theo Morris played sub par golf and won 2 up. Victories also followed for Harry McDonnell who birdied the 3rd and 8th hole and eagled the 10th hole to get back to all square before a birdie on the 17th resulted in a win 2&1. Sam Arthur won 6&4 playing the round in 3 under par.

Luke Ryan lost 1 down at the last. Dan Knight lost 3&1. Josh Austin-Tierney lost 6&4 and Ellis Kerr lost 4&3.  This was Kerr’s debut in a Men’s county match and proved invaluable experience for the county U16 player. The future looks good for him.

The final result was a win for Cambridgeshire 8-4.

Thanks go to Bedford and County GC for hosting and presenting the course in excellent condition considering the amount of rain we have had.
