York and Plumb show their class in Leicestershire loss

The Leicestershire GC was the venue for the final Anglia League encounter of the season. This year has been a transition year for the team, with the introduction of a number of young players which have delivered results against Northamptonshire and away at Suffolk.

In the morning foursomes the county were ahead 3-1. Our new power opening pair which won 2 out of 2 at the Eastern Counties Foursomes ,Joe York and Luke Ryan won 1up. George Howard and Paul Hodgkin who were well up throughout eventually won 1up.  Jake Plumb and Josh Austin-Tierney slotted home birdies on the front nine and back nine to win 3&1.

The afternoon singles was a different story and Leicestershire with their experience fought back. Jake Plumb managed a half against the new England Seniors Champion of Champion. Joe York showed his impressive fighting spirit and with 4 birdies in the last 5 holes and ran out winner 2up. Unfortunately Leicestershire showed impressive match play qualities and won the other singles 6.5- 1.5.

The final result was 7.5 -4.5 to Leicestershire.Lincolnshire won the Anglia League with Cambridgeshire 5th in a tight finale.
