Kevis Diss notched up his 2nd County Seniors Championship at the St Neots golf Club yesterday, defeating David Burt of Saffron Walden after a sudden death play off. His last victory was at the Bourn golf club back in 2016. David Burt is also a past champion winning way back in 2012 at his home club.
Only 38 CAGU seniors played and the scoring was high on a tricky, well-groomed course with speedy greens. David came in with a 78 to push County Seniors Captain Kenny Parsons into 2nd place and it looked like a winning score. However, Kevin, playing at the end of the field, lipped out with his putt to win the Championship outright and it went to sudden death.
The first hole of the play off was halved and when Kevin pushed his tee shot behind a tree on the 18th hole it looked like David, who was down the middle was in control. Unfortunately for him his 2nd shot took a few bad bounces and it finished through the green. Kevin using all his years of skill and experience punched a deft shot under the tree and safely onto the centre of the green. David chipped up to 8 feet then missed his putt and it was all over as Kevin secured the trophy with 2 putts for his par.
Alan Todd of Ely City Golf Club won the Super Seniors Rose Bowl (65-69 years of age) with 82 and the Masters Trophy went to the runner up David Burt with a 78.
The best net was won by Tom Gooch of Ely City with a fine 70 net.
Kevin now goes forward to represent CAGU at the County Champion of Champions event at the Woodhall Spa Golf Club in September.
Next year’s Championship takes place at the Girton Golf Club on the 14th July.
