The Greensomes League final took place at Girton Golf Club on 20th October 2024. The teams making it through to the final were March GC and Barkway GC. The weather had been very poor in the days prior to the event and it was not known for sure until the morning that it could take place.
In the event, after a few hours overnight respite from the rain, it was determined that conditions were suitable for it to go ahead, however, whether it would be completed was another matter as the forecast for the day was quite bad. After a hearty breakfast the teams got under way just after midday with the rain holding off but a very stiff breeze.
The wind continued to be the major challenge throughout the day to all of the players with the ball veering way off line each time it climbed above the trees. Around the halfway mark the weather decided to show what had been forecast and for some 15 minutes there was a torrential downpour. Fortunately, this did not stop play but some of the greens were very wet and putting was difficult.
Early results indicated that the match was quite even and the first matches were shared. The 3rd and 4th matches were some distance back and so it was some time later that the result was known when match 4 was won by March GC which secured the overall win with March GC taking the trophy 3.5 points to 1.5 points.
March have secured a number of the Interclub trophies over he past few years and will clearly be the team to beat in 2025.
