Links Newmarket Crowned England Golf Junior Champion Club

After 36 holes of golf, Links Newmarket Golf Club were crowned English Junior Champion Club at Woodhall Spa’s Bracken Course after winning by just a single point.

With the two best stableford scores from three counting for each team, Oliver Ouzman (handicap 26), Luis Brown (handicap 10) and Joe Kemp (handicap 7) all contributed to their team across the two-day event, as they racked up 151 points – one more than their nearest rivals Radnor Golf Club.

Day one saw Luis and Joe, both 16 years old and from West Suffolk College, rack up 38 and 34 points respectively as Luis birdied the 3rd and 18th holes. Joe produced one of the shots of the day as he sent a 150-yard nine-iron from a greenside bunker to within two feet for birdie on the 12th, while on both days he hit shots on the 7th hole to within two feet of the flag!

13-year-old Oliver also scored 34 points but only the top two scores counted with 72 the team total for the first day.

Luis started the final day in scintillating form as he was three-under gross for the first five with three consecutive birdies on holes 3-5. He holed two 20-foot putts and produced a 20-yard chip-in for birdie on the 16th, as he amassed 37 points overall.

Oliver of Culford School impressed with his putting and iron play, including a super tee shot on 16 to seven feet as he scored a whopping 42 points on day two, to support Luis’ 37, as the trio waited anxiously in the clubhouse to learn of their win.
