Monday 1st July at Cambridge Meridian Golf Club saw the annual competition to find the Seniors Champion Club. It was good weather for golf and the course was in good condition.
The competition is between teams of three senior players who play individual Stableford rounds with the best two scores from three to count. Some 15 of the clubs in the County entered and between them put forward a total of 20 teams.
Early scores seemed to indicate that the course was playing tough, however the later players soon putting together some steady rounds.
With two scores recorded for all teams, it became clear that the result would be close but as the third scores were entered three clubs were in with a chance. As it turned out the overall result was not finally decided until the final groups came in and confirmed that the winners were the Girton A team with 75 points and the runners up were the home team of Cambridge Meridian with 73 points.
Congratulations to the Girton team of Charles Webb, Paul Jobson and Vernon Dudley who scored 33, 38, and 37 points respectively.
The best individual score was a very closely fought competition. Card playoffs were being worked out for 36 points and then a series of four scores of 38 points were recorded. Of these two were eliminated with back nine scores of 20 points leaving Keith Curr of Cambridge Meridian and Gary Davies of Ely City with back nine scores of 21 points. It was Keth Curr who won the individual prize with a score of 13 points on the final six holes.
Thanks to all clubs who entered and to Cambridge Meridian for hosting the event and for their support during the day.
