Fresh from their resounding victory over Norfolk and Suffolk, earlier in the month, Cambridgeshire U18’s travelled to Staverton Park, Northamptonshire, to take on the reigning English Champions, Leicestershire and Rutland, in the final of the Anglian league.
Cambridgeshire fielded a full strength 8 man team which included England regular Jake Plumb and Olly Toyer fresh from his top 16 finish at the British Boys.
In the morning foursomes Cambridgeshire proved too strong for the opposition by winning two games and halving the other two.
After Lunch Cambridgeshire really showed their class and built on the morning lead by dominating the afternoon singles and winning all 8 singles matches.
This was an incredible achievement and no one could remember a whitewash in a final before; in addition to this, it was the first time that Cambridgeshire U18’s have won the Anglian league in its 43 year history.
