A team go top of Anglia League

Ely GC was the venue for the next round of Anglia league matches .A late injury meant that Theo Morris was called up and he did not disappoint.

Teddy Hall and Jake Plumb started off in the top match and fought back to all square going into the last . However a chip out from the trees by the Cambridgeshire pairing enable the Suffolk pairing to win 1 up.

Matt Pearce and Paul Hodgkin started birdie, birdie and from then on never really looked like losing. They went 3 up through 9 holes and ran out winners by 3&1.

Paul Collington and Theo Morris halved their match after being three down with five holes to play. Collington played an incredible second shot over a tree to 12 ft  which enabled the Cambridgeshire pairing to halve the match. In the final match Loveday and Handy lost 2&1.

So at lunch it was 1.5 -2.5 to Suffolk. Teddy Hall lead the way and won 1up in a battle with Jack Cardy finshing off with a 8iron to 8ft and two putt for victory. Jake Plumb was in impressive form slotting home birdes with ease to win 2&1. Matt Pearce was at his formidable best slotting home birdies on the 4th, 8th, 12th and 13th holes to win by 6&4. Chris Handy lost 6&5, before the performance of the day was shown by Paul Collington who raced through to being 5 under par after 12 holes and won 7&6. Theo Morris then fought all the way against Russell Oakey shooting birdies on the 4th, 7th and 13th holes to go 2 up with 2 holes to play. Suffolk won the last two holes but Morris scored a vital half. Paul Hodgkin lost by 5&3 before the match was decided by the newly crowned Cambridgeshire champion Danny Loveday and Ruben Harvey. Loveday made a fast start and was 5 up . Suffolk fought back with birdies and it was left to Loveday to make a great up and down to win the 15th. Loveday then made an exceptional 2 putt to go 1 up down the last . He then won the 18th to win by 2 holes.

Cambridgeshire won the singles 5.5-2.5 to win the match 7-5. This result means they share the lead at the top of the Anglia league with Leicestershire on 4 pts. Thanks go to Ely GC for the hospitality and presenting the course in excellent condition taking into account the recent wet weather.
