A windy and hot St Ives GC greeted the county golfers for the recent Summer Series 2. Scores were quite high early on before Jake Plumb from Gog Magog came in with a 74 and closely followed by Louis Martin from Saffron Walden GC with a 74 also.
James Mclaughlin from Ely GC then carded a 1 under par 71 followed by Harry O’Shea from Links GC with a 71. This was a good two days for O’Shea after he won the Ely Junior Open the day before. O’Shea eventually came second on countback from Mclaughlin.
The player who started off the best going through the first eight holes in 4 under par was county captain and winter series winner Craig Thorburn from Gog Magog GC. He went out in 34 shots and came back in 36 to finish with a 70 gross 2 under par.
So after 2 rounds of the Summer series 16 year old,Harry O’Shea leads with 33 pts closely followed by Craig Thorburn with 31 pts. Third position is Joe York with 26 pts and first winter series winner Alex Kephart with 25 pts.
In what promises to be an exciting finale at St Neots GC on Friday 14th August anyone one in the top 10 could win.
